Financial scams take many different forms and are talked about extensively here in our blog.

If you or a loved one has been taken advantage of by a scam, here is some recommended reading for you:

First, check with the FTC: The Federal Trade Commission has a specific webpage that discusses exactly what to do if you’ve been scammed in a variety of ways. https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/what-do-if-you-were-scammed

Did it involve the US Postal Service? If so, contact the US Postal Inspection Service: https://www.uspis.gov or 1-877-876-2455 (to report fraud)

Depending on the type of scam you fell victim to, you should also consider:

  • Contacting local law enforcement (call the police or sheriff)
  • Contacting your bank
  • Contacting your credit card company
  • Resetting any passwords that you may have given to a scammer
